Quito Traffic Studies

Quito, Ecuador

BFJ was retained by a land owner and his architecture team in Quito, Ecuador to assist in the development of the circulation element of a new community located between Quito and the City’s new airport. The objective of the project was to develop a mixed-use town with a dense town center that is as self-sustaining as possible. One of the challenges of the assignment was to redesign a freeway interchange into a friendlier and safer feature of the new town. BFJ demonstrated through a traffic simulation model that a two-roundabout interchange would have better levels of service and be safer and less expensive than a traditional interchange at this location.
